President's Year in Review

June 2017

From the Office of the President -

We have so much to be grateful for as we close out the 2016-2017 school year.

There are many people to thank and acknowledge for all their hard work and passion for our faith and learning community. Thank you to Principal Johnny Bevacqua who continues to lead the faculty with grace and with dedication towards ensuring the success of our school. Also, I offer my thanks to all members of our Vancouver College community including parents, faculty and staff, as without you the successes achieved this year would not have been possible.

While the school year comes to an end, our Campus Redevelopment will continue through the summer.

We are thrilled and excited at the progress the project has accomplished this year. In September, we said a fond farewell to the Brothers Residence with one last Mass in the Residence Chapel, celebrated the ground breaking of the new Middle School, Manrell Hall, in February and after receiving our Development and Building Permits in April, began construction on this first phase of the project.

We are pleased with our timeline for phase 1, but also realize this is only half of the job. Our second phase will address the seismic imperative by replacing McCormack, Lannon, Mackin and Nichol Halls.

The second phase is a new Elementary School, including an Elementary gymnasium, our own Chapel, a new home for the Christian Brothers and offices for our administration. The design includes plans to retain the Lannon façade and the beautiful McCormack Hall door. We expect to complete this phase three years from now.

The Our Next Century campaign continues to focus on raising the funds necessary to complete the Campus Redevelopment, as well as support our educational and financials assistance programs. We ask all families to give as they are able to help us build our vision of providing an exceptional learning environment for our boys and those of the future. The Advancement Office and I look forward to meeting with you to discuss in detail the plans for Our Next Century. We thank you for your support.

I wish you all God's blessings for a safe and happy summer.

Semper Fidelis,

John H. Nixon (VC'69)
President, Vancouver College
